"I knew before the game started it was going to be a special night, my final game in Pinstripes. When I saw Derek and Andy walking to the mound to take me out I was overcome with so many emotions. It's been an incredible career, one filled with many memories with my teammates and the great Yankee fans. As I walked off the field, I wanted to soak in as much as I could. This was it for me as a baseball player. I thought about all my achievements and the great moments I have shared with so many special people. I started my career with the Yankees on May 23, 1995. Tonight over 18 years later I was leaving baseball as a 5 time World Champion, MLB All Time Saves Leader. I was leaving the game on my own terms not because of injury or diminished skills. I was leaving the game I love the way I wanted, as a Yankee. Mariano Rivera #42"
